The Grade Twos will be completing a test on their recent learning on simple machines. This test will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2013. Here are some things that your child should know. Please feel free to talk with them about the following so that they will be even more successful when the time comes to complete their culminating task.
Success Criteria for Science – Understanding Structures and Mechanisms
1. Can explain how simple machines help people. (Simple machines help us move things and do work.)
2. Can name the 6 simple machines (wedge, inclined plane, lever, wheel and axle, screw, and pulley)
3. Identify examples of simple machines (example a light bulb is a screw)
4. Can name the three parts of a lever (effort, load and fulcrum) – Helpful tip – Stands for ELF
5. Can explain the effect the fulcrum has on the load (ex. if the fulcrum is closer to the load it will take less strength to move the load)
As for the Grade One’s they will also be given a very brief test in which they will have to name some objects and the materials that those objects are made of.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Miss Chittle
OBJECTS AND MATERIALS (GRADE 1)
Learning Goals:
We are learning to name objects and identify the materials that these materials are made of.
SIMPLE MACHINES (GRADE 2)
Learning Goals:
We are learning to name the six simple machines, identify them and give examples of each.
