ADDING AND SUBTRACTING
I am learning how to add and subtract one and two digit numbers.
I am learning how to make an addition and subtraction story.
I am learning how to solve addition and subtraction stories.
TIME
Learning Goal
I am learning about telling time using a digital and analog clock.
I am learning to write the time using a digital and analog clock.
I am learning about some activities I do during specific times of the day. For example, at 8:30 am school starts, at 8:00 pm I go to bed.
I am learning about the days of the week and the months of the year.
Success Criteria:
I can read a digital and analog clock to the hour and half hour (and quarter hour for Grade 2)
I can identify the minute and hour hand
I can write the time on an analog and digital clock to the hour and half hour (and quarter hour for Grade 2)
I can name some events or activities that I do during specific times of the day and during specific days of the week.
Temperature
Learning Goal:
I am learning about the seasons
I am learning about temperature
Success Criteria:
I can name all of the seasons in the correct order.
I can discuss some activities that I can do during each season and the changes that I see.
I can talk about what season is the coldest and the warmest.
I understand how a thermometer works (when it is hot, the mercury will rise. When the weather is cold the mercury will decrease).
Below is a book your child has created. This book only shows some pages.
2-D Shapes / Figures
LEARNING GOALS:
We are learning to identify many 2-D figures (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, etc.).
We are learning to talk about the number of sides and vertices each figure has.
We can create pictures using 2-D shapes.
LOOK WHAT WE MADE WITH 2-D SHAPES!!!!
THE GRADE TWOS WERE EXTENDING THEIR THINKING. HERE'S SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW:
THERE ARE 3 FIGURES IN A BAG. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SIDES IS 13. WHAT COULD THE FIGURES BE?
WHAT OTHER FIGURES COULD THEY BE?
THE CHILD WHO SOLVED THIS QUESTION WAS ANSWERING HIS OWN QUESTION WHICH WAS:
IS THERE A 2-D SHAPE THAT HAS A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF SIDES THAN VERTICES?

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CHILD HAD NOTICED THAT THE GREEN TRIANGLE CAUSED A PROBLEM SO HE DREW A PENTAGON! |
IS THERE A 2-D SHAPE THAT HAS A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF SIDES THAN VERTICES?
ADDITION
LEARNING GOALS:
We are learning to write one and two-digit addition sentences (2+4=6) and solve them using counting on and doubling strategies.
MEASUREMENT
LEARNING GOALS:
We are learning how to measure length, width, and height of objects
We are learning to use the mathematical language "length", "width", and "height"
We are learning to measure using one object only (for example, one crayon)
We are learning to start at the baseline (where the object begins or ends) when we measure
We are learning about standard (cm and m) and non-standard units (paper clip, eraser, pencil) of measurement
MATH
Data Management
LEARNING GOALS:
We are learning to conduct a survey, make a tally chart, and create a graph (bar and picture).
