Science Test Wednesday January 9

Another Science Unit, on Life Systems, is being completed.  Your child will be tested on their current learning within this week or early next week.

Everyone Should Know, and will be testing on The Following:
How humans help and harm living things
The needs of all living things

Grade 1's Will also be tested on:
Living and Non-living things
What plants need in order to survive
Five Senses and the body parts that are used for this sense. For example, Hearing is a sense and we use our ears to hear.
Body Parts and their importance (both internal and external)

Grade 2's will also be tested on:
Ways animals help and harm humans
Life Cycle of a frog, chick, or butterfly
The different animal groups, characteristics / definition and examples of animals in this animal group

WOW!  WHAT GREAT LEARNING AND STUDYING OUR CLASS DID FOR THEIR SCIENCE TESTS. ALL SCIENCE TESTS HAVE BEEN HANDED BACK IN THE AGENDAS TODAY (MONDAY JANUARY 14TH). TAKE A LOOK AT HOW YOUR CHILD DID ON THEIR TEST!  GREAT WORK GRADE ONES AND TWOS!!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Grade Twos will be completing a test on their recent learning on simple machines. This test will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2013.  Here are some things that your child should know.  Please feel free to talk with them about the following so that they will be even more successful when the time comes to complete their culminating task.
Success Criteria for Science – Understanding Structures and Mechanisms
1.     Can explain how simple machines help people.  (Simple machines help us move things and do work.)
2.     Can name the 6 simple machines (wedge, inclined plane, lever, wheel and axle, screw, and pulley)
3.     Identify examples of simple machines (example a light bulb is a screw)
4.     Can name the three parts of a lever (effort, load and fulcrum) – Helpful tip – Stands for ELF
5.     Can explain the effect the fulcrum has on the load (ex. if the fulcrum is closer to the load it will take less strength to move the load)
As for the Grade One’s they will also be given a very brief test in which they will have to name some objects and the materials that those objects are made of.

Thank you for your ongoing support,
Miss Chittle
